    Tamaudun, built in 1501 by King Shō Shin to reinter the remains of his father, King Shō En, was heavily damaged during the Battle of Okinawa. It was later restored, designated as a World Heritage Site in 2000, and recognized as a National Treasure in 2022.

    Shikinaen is a garden from the Ryukyu Kingdom era located in Naha City, built in the 18th century as a royal villa. It is a stroll-style garden where visitors can enjoy changing scenery while walking around the pond, and it was used for receiving guests and for relaxation. In 2000, it was designated as part of the World Heritage Site “Gusuku Sites and Related Properties of the Kingdom of Ryukyu.”

  • Former Japanese Navy Headquarters Bunker

    This former naval headquarters base was dug in 1944 by 3,000 Japanese soldiers, and the underground bunkers, excavated by hand using tools such as hoes and pickaxes, remain intact. The museum displays artifacts unearthed from the bunkers as well as letters sent to family members from inside them.

    You can fully enjoy Okinawa’s attractions, from Gyokusendo, a 5-kilometer-long limestone cave formed over approximately 300,000 years, to craft experiences in the Ryukyu Kingdom Castle Town, where historic houses over 100 years old have been relocated to recreate the streetscape of the Ryukyu Kingdom era.   • Okinawa Peace Memorial Hall

    Built as a symbol of eternal peace and in memory of those who died in the war, the Okinawa Peace Prayer Statue, created from a model by Okinawan artist Shinzan Yamada, is enshrined here. The site also features donated paintings from renowned artists who support the philosophy of the memorial hall, as well as additional facilities such as the Kiyora Butterfly Garden.

  • Himeyuri Peace Museum

    A peace museum that conveys the realities of the Battle of Okinawa experienced by the “Himeyuri Student Corps.” Through testimonial videos, photographs, and life-size models of the bunkers, visitors can learn about the students’ experiences on the battlefield. The museum is adjacent to the Himeyuri Monument.
