With over 300 years in the business, this is one of the oldest ryokan in Kyoto. From the Edo period, through the Meiji period aristocrats and daimyo frequented the inn. Through providing excellent service and cultivating a valued reputation, the inn was able to prosper over its 300-year existence. The inn prides itself most on its famous service, which goes above and beyond that of which is expected. Guests who stay at Tawaraya will experience true hospitality, and will feel more like royalty than customers. Everything is of the highest standard and the inn makes no compromises in terms of providing their guests with the finest food and service. - When booking 2 or more rooms consisting of Taka, Shogetsu, or Kujaku + Kaede, Akane, Chikusen, or Kotobuki room types:
As the dinner charge for Taka, Shogetsu, and Kujaku room types is more expensive, please pay the dinner charge difference for guests staying at Kaede, Akane, Chikusen, or Kotobuki room types at the location.
For bookings of 2 or more rooms consisting of Taka, Shogetsu, or Kujaku room types; and for bookings of 2 or more rooms consisting of Kaede, Akane, Chikusen, or Kotobuki room types : As the dinner charge is the same, there is no need to pay on site.
The dinner charge difference is as follows.

Regarding Meals:
- For guests who have booked a 1-night stay with dinner and breakfast, accommodation cannot be made in case guests skip dinner or breakfast at the location. Refunds will not be issued even in case guests skip a meal.
- The final starting time for dinner is 18:30 (select between 17:30 - 18:30).
Dinner will not be served for guests arriving past 18:30.
- There are no vegetarian or gluten-free meals.
- For those with allergies, please be sure to make a notification at least 3 days in advance.
While not all requests may be accommodated, please notify as early as possible.

Wow. Those were the first word which came to our mind when we left the ryokan. It was one of the best experience we had. We are world traveler and looking for something authentic local not pretentious but luxury. This is it.
