Saka Hotel resides in Kyoto's famous Higashiyama district, surrounded by the five hills of Old Kyoto, and very near Kiyomizu Temple, one of the most iconic of Japan's must-see sights. From the hotel, guests can easily walk to many major tourist attractions, including Hokanji Temple, Yasaka Shrine in Gion, Sanjusangendo, and the Kyoto National Museum; with the train station also a short walk away, the rest of Kyoto is easily accessible as well.
Their thirty-eight guest rooms come together in a harmony of blonde wood accents and earthtones to capture the warm essence of Japanese interior aesthetics. While paying homage to its functional aspects, the rooms also encourage guests to take their shoes off and make themselves at home, an essential part of Japanese culture. They have 17 different room types to suit every travel style, many with fragrant hinoki wood bathtubs, which harken to Japan's tradition of a nice, hot soak at the end of the day, the perfect way to unwind after busy travel. Guests will find a bottle of local sake in each room for adding to their bath water, so all can enjoy this well-kept Japanese beauty secret for soft and supple skin. Some rooms even have a partial open-air bath for relaxing under the trees in the evening sunlight. Some of the rooms feature a hori-gotatsu, a traditional sunken table, which gives guests a taste of both the warmth and charm of Japanese living spaces. They also have Japanese-style rooms where you can dine en-suite, or gaze out over the Kyoto townscape from a private terrace; or if you just have to get some work done, they also have rooms with a convenient desk for mixing business and pleasure. For larger groups, they offer Japanese-style rooms with up to 5-guest occupancy as well.
At the exclusive Dining Kiyomizu Saryo restaurant, chefs choose the finest ingredients from both field and sea of the Miketsukuni and Kyoto to create delectable traditional cuisine.
Not only can guests enjoy innovative Japanese dishes, but they can also sample some of the finest local sake; the menu features delicate and refined varieties from the Fushimi area. They also have an extensive wine list with vintages from around the world, as well as some local ones from the Kyo-Tanba area. Dishes are served in Kyo-yaki and Kiyomizu-yaki, Kyoto's fine local ceramics, so your dining experience is a feast for all the senses.
The guest lounge is also a library corner, with many great titles in both English and Japanese to enhance your trip, as well as a massage chair for ultimate relaxation. They also have a selection of books and treats for little travelers. Coffee, espresso, matcha lattes, and other indulgent drinks are also available with a self-service cafe machine, as well as tea and local sweets. During aperitif time (16:00-18:00), sparkling wine is also served.
Sink into restful quietude at Tau-yasaka, the private reservation-only bath, which features a large, 3m-wide tub so guests can wash away the cares of travel with lots of space to lounge. The bath waters change with the seasons, with yuzu citrus for winter, as well as fragrant pine and lovely iris, among others. There is also a large shower area and tatami-mat rest area, so guests can take the time to pamper themselves after the bath, too.
