*About meals: Only Buddhist vegetarian cuisine is served for both breakfast and dinner, and the menu is the same for multiple night stays. Alcoholic drinks are available.
*Since this accomodation is located on Mt. Hiei, there are no other locations where meals can be taken. Also, please take caution as public transportation to the accomodation is limited (bus and funicular), and there is no public transportation to the accomodation after 18:00.
*The latest time to check-in is 18:00. After this time, Sakamoto Cable, the funicular line to the accomodation from Kyoto, also stops running, so please plan in advance.
*Entrance fee for Enrakuji Temple is separate from the accommodation fee, and is required to enter the temple. Adults: JPY 700, Junior high & Highschool students: JPY 500, Elementary school students: JPY 300.
*About laying out of futons: Guests at this accomodation must lay out their own futons.

Located just a 20 minute train ride from Kyoto Station is Ogoto Onsen. This retro, natural hot springs ryokan is located near Lake Biwa in Shiga Prefecture. Ogoto Onsen is said to have been opened about 1,200 years ago in the Heian Period by Saicho, founder of the Enryaku-ji Temple on Mt. Hiei. The ryokan has gender-segregated large communal baths and open-air baths, as well as private open-air baths which guests can use for an additional fee. In addition to the standard Japanese-style rooms, there are also guestrooms equipped with open-air baths. The open-air baths in the special guestrooms use natural hot spring water.

The resort hotel stands facing the south of Lake Biwa, with a panorama of the magnificent lake and the World Heritage Site Enryaku-ji Temple. It takes about 20 min from Ogoto Onsen Station to Kyoto Station, and about 50 minutes from Ogoto Onsen Station to Osaka Station.

By car: Exit the Meishin Expressway at Kyoto-higashi IC and continue on to Route 161 via Nishi-Otsu Bypass. Landmark: JR Kosei Line Ogoto Onsen Station.

This lodging is a “ryokan” which is part of Japan’s indigenous culture. It is located in Ogoto Onsen, a natural hot spring area just a 20 minute train ride from Kyoto Station.
