We had a very pleasant stay in Wakaba Ryokan. The room for 2 was perhaps a bit small but very tidy and beautifully decorated. The futons were good and clean. The onsen is really good with plenty of room and plenty of soap and shampoo to choose from. Breakfast was plentiful with lots of different vegetables, rice and fish. The staff was friendly and though not everyone is proficient in English, they are very helpful. All in all a very pleasant stay in a beautiful town and excellent value for money.

Overall the service is really great for my 1st time stay in Japanese style hotel. There are the flaw for the laundry and DCC payment, and the manager try his best to solve.

Charming family-run ryokan in a convenient location. Easy access to the sights in the region (Mt. Haguro) by train and those within Sakata (Kaikou-ji temple, historical rice warehouses, fish pier) by walking. Facilities include clean Japanese style rooms and a nice sento. Ryokan decor is interesting with a fascinating collection of dolls and other local crafts. The two highlights were the meals (fresh seafood, delicate flavors, generous servings, and great local sakes) and the kindness and generosity of our hosts. The director speaks very good English and was able to make great recommendations on things to do in the area depending on interests.

An excellent place to relax and enjoy delicous food. The service was outstanding and went out of their way to make my stay comfortable. The host is fluent in English and most helpful. The dinner was a memorable experience with excellent local seafood. This is a fine place for a couple or for a family to come and enjoy Japanese hospitality.
