More about Tokachigawa Onsen Sanyoan

Sanyoan is a Japanese-style resort located in the hot spring town of Tokachigawa Onsen on Japan's northernmost island of Hokkaido. The inn focuses on providing personal, sincere hospitality, offering only 11 guest rooms in all to achieve a more intimate atmosphere. Its rooms -- each with a character of its own -- are crafted from natural materials to create a decidedly Japanese space, and the rooms' serene lighting was arranged by a celebrated designer using indirect light to convey a sense of peace and calm.

Sanyoan also boasts tantalizingly fresh and Michelin-recognized Japanese cuisine made with seasonal, local ingredients and healing natural hot spas and aromatherapies that delight the five senses. The area's unique hot spring is a particular draw as it bubbles forth from beneath a marsh rich in organic material. This rare type of spring with its infusion of natural moisturizing particles is said to have beautifying properties that leave bathers' skin smooth and healthy.

The public bath looked a bit sad with no views. We had our own tub in our room, so we used that only. The food portions were small but we still felt full in the end. It is not the traditional Japanese cuisine, but modernized in a more deconstructed way.
