Often referred to as "Hida's Little Kyoto," the mountain town of Takayama has preserved the ancient atmosphere of the Edo era. Considered one of Japan's three most beautiful festivals, the Takayama Festival is an opportunity to witness the traditional arts and crafts of the area. Local dishes including Hida beef and Hoba miso are heavily recommended. Being just a short walk from JR Takayama Station and within easy walking distance of all the local tourist attractions and historical sites, the Ryokan Tanabe is the perfect place in which to relax and feel at home.

Very personable ryokan with great service from Mrs Tanabe and staffs. My husband felt ill and Mrs Tanabe personnaly get a taxi and sent us to her doctor. We really appreciate her help. Great food and location. We really enjoyed staying there. Thank you.
