Both the indoor and outdoor onsen were great, all open 24 hours so there is plenty of opportunity to have the bath to yourself. It is only a short shuttle bus ride away from the other onsen in the Nyuto area. The included breakfast and dinner were very goo

Food was superb Japanese style, onsen in the snow was delightful. Isolated as you would expect for great peace and quiet after 2 weeks skiing in Hokkaido

Ganiba Onsen is a spectacular place. We visited in the winter and the whole of Akita was blanketed with snow. I speak Japanese so I can't comment on the staff's English ability, but they were incredibly kind and patient. The Onsen we're beautiful and

This onsen was absolutely beautiful against the winter landscape. We went on a Wednesday in January and had the entire outdoor mixed bath to ourselves for a majority of the time. Only one local day traveler joined us for half an hour or so. The water was v

2 night stay at Ganiba Onsen as part of a Honeymoon tour of Tohoku & Hokkaido. It's secluded being the end of a long climb past several Onsens all of which are served by a scheduled bus. Staff are friendly and room was large and traditionally furnished in

The staff is very friendly and helpful. The dinner is wonderful and the breakfast is typical Japanese food but would be better if more varieties is provided. For outdoor mixed Onsen, may be a reminder needs to be installed at the door to stop male from

Ganiba Onsen is probably my favourite place in Japan together with Kamikochi (Nagano). The onsen is idyllic, surrounded by forest. The whole place is much more peaceful than its more famous neighbour Tsurunoyo. Rooms are spacious and well apoointed. Meals

The food is interesting and delicious, but they are mainly wild vegetables cooked in unique style. Mixed open-air bath is good as it has the natural feel and more privacy than the other famous onsen nearby. The hotel is easy to reach with Ugo-Kotsu bus.

The food for breakfast and dinner is way below the standard of all the ryokans I have stayed. This place is not for those looking for good food.

Very pleased with the stay in Dec. Stunning view of winter. Foods are not lavish but ok. Outdoor onsen in snow is amazing (But some of the shower taps are dry). Great 45 min ride with the nyuto onsen bus.

We had a marvelous time at Ganiba Onsen. Staff spoke just enough English to explain the facilities and drink choices at dinner. We stayed in their biggest room, which had views in two directions and was quiet and comfortable. The indoor baths are very nice

Showering facilities are a great disappointment. Some taps are dry. Others have loose knobs with green algae on them! The yukimi rotenburo (outdoor spa) is beautiful in winter but the 50m walk through the snow covered pine forest is freezing. Changing room

The atmosphere at the outdoor bath here is magical, with snow and hot spring. The dinner was fantastic. The steamed crab was juicy and sweet - best crab I have ever had.

It appears to us that the hot spring water is somewhat acidic to the skin and therefore is not suitable for us.
