More about Biwako Hanakaido

Located just a 20 minute train ride from Kyoto Station is Ogoto Onsen. This retro, natural hot springs ryokan is located near Lake Biwa in Shiga Prefecture. The lodging features cuisine prepared with local ingredients such as Omi beef and more, as well as aromatherapy which is popular among female guests.
Ogoto Onsen is said to have been opened about 1,200 years ago in the Heian Period by Saicho, founder of the Enryaku-ji Temple on Mt. Hiei. The ryokan has gender-segregated large communal baths and open-air baths, as well as private open-air baths which guests can use for an additional fee. In addition to the standard Japanese-style rooms, there are also guestrooms equipped with open-air baths. The open-air baths in the special guestrooms use natural hot spring water.
