More about Sakamotoya (Amanohashidate)

“Nature first,” that is Sakamotoya’s motto. The proprietors run their own plantation, growing fruits and vegetables and offering meals prepared with organic delights. Futon covers and sheets are washed with natural cleansers, so guests with sensitive skin enjoy a worry-free stay. Sakamotoya also boasts Nariai Kannon Hot Spring, which warms the body and promotes good health. Groups can reserve a private bath; an additional fee of JPY 150 per person may apply. Sakamotoya only uses environmentally friendly shampoos and conditioners. Sakamotoya’s is nestled near Amanohasidate, one of the Three Views of Japan. It is also close to Kasamatsu Park and a sightseeing boat. Sakamotoya can store guests’ luggage before check-in and after check-out free of charge. Tatami, futon, yukata, even the koto played by the proprietor—this lodging gives guests the opportunity to enjoy traditional Japanese culture. (Note: There is no elevator in this two-story building.)

This hotel is located in Kyoto Prefecture, but is quite far away from the city of Kyoto itself. Please be aware of this when booking.

      “Good”

The ryokan is ideally located near by the sea and the sand bar, on the other side of the Amanohashidate train station. The staff can pick you up for free but make sure you call beforehand. The place is a bit old, but very clean and the staff very welcoming

      “Above average”

This place is rather shabby. Everything is quite old (furniture, walls, curtains, ...). The (public) bath (men and women separated) is okay, but all others I have seen in Japan are better. The location is very good, very near to the ferry station. A big

      “Very good”

I would have preferred a toilet in the room, and maybe if there were lots of guests, you would need more car parking spaces
