This ryokan (traditional Japanese inn) is known as the place Patrick Lafcadio Hearn (also known as Koizumi Yakumo), an international writer best known for his books about Japan (1850-1904) lived when he first moved to Matsue. Guests can enjoy matcha tea while listening to koto playing in the lobby. The guest rooms offer views of Lake Shinji and Ohashigawa River. The inn also has a large communal hot spring bath.

Best for!”
The location of this well-established ryokan on the side of Lake Shinji was perfect. We could see it from the sightseeing boats and enjoyed different views at night and during the day. According to the introduction, the rooms were very clean and easy to use as they had just been renovated until March. There were no steps in the room at all, and the lights, etc. responded with voices, and I felt that universal design considerations had been taken into account. The accessories in the room were also modern and stylish. The shijimi clam soup for breakfast was splendidly delicious. I was happy to have a delicious meal while enjoying the view of Lake Shinji outside. I would like to use this hotel again if I have the chance. I would definitely recommend it to everyone.

Great experience of Japanese hospitality. Very nice rooms with river views. Excellent food and sake. James is a lovely and great host. I definitely would recommend this hotel to others.

Stayed two pleasant nights. I've stayed at other ryokans, and I must say that I enjoyed their dinners the most. The staff is courteous, helpful, and genuinely warm. If you go to Mastue, stay at Ohashikan. Thanks, James!

We were disappointed with the room. On the internet site of Ohashikan a picture of a standard room is shown with a side room with 2 comfortable chairs in front of the windows and a main room with 2 floor chairs and a table. At arrival we were told that thi
