Just a 30-minute car ride from Kyoto Station. The view from the open-air bath is amazing. This is a brilliant ryokan (Japanese-style hotel) with cherry-blossoms and wild azalea in the spring, firefly on a cool-summer's evening, autumn's red leaves and in winter, snow can be seen whilst enjoying the pot-dishes. This ryokan offers plans without dinner, but asks guests to be aware that because of its remote location deep in the mountains, there are no restaurants in the surrounding area. The ryokan can later accept separate requests for meals; however initially booking the plan including breakfast and dinner is recommended as it is a better value.
Guests must contact the lodge before 18:00 on their day of arrival. Guests who do not make contact prior to 19:00 will not receive an evening meal.
Breakfast will be served in the restaurant or banquet halls.

Second time here. First time was much better. They changed the onsen since. Now there are only 2 small baths which each hold 3 people maximum. If you want to use the larger bath, (which I think we previously had free access to), now you have to pay 25

This was my first onsen experience - and wow was it amazing. Outstanding service! I would recommend signing up for the 45 minute couples private onsen experience - it was well worth it. My only complaint is the public onsen is a bit small.
