More about Koyasan Saizenin

This retreat is home to 3 gardens designed by Mirei Shigemori, one of which lays claim to being one of the first gardens in Koyasan. Designated as a national preserved treasure in February 2010.

- This facility is a temple lodging.
*Temple lodgings were originally accommodation facilities for Buddhist priests and practitioners, but they now also accept regular tourists.
A Buddhist temple is also located on site, so both staff and priests will offer hospitality to guests.

- Guests that reserve a plan that includes meals at this temple lodging can enjoy Buddhist vegetarian cuisine.
*Buddhist vegetarian cuisine follows Buddhist precepts and is prepared with vegetables, beans, and other plant derived ingredients.

- When staying at this temple lodging, guests can experience the following.
- Sutra Transcription: Transcribe Buddhist sutras.
- Religious Service: Observe a ritual where a Buddhist priest chants sutras, etc.

My husband and I loved our stay at this monastery. It was beautiful, peaceful, and had the best vegetarian food we've ever had. Our room was quite large and the location was easy to get to, just behind Danjo Garan. Going to the service in the morning was a

One of the best places I stayed in Japan, it was located a short walk from the nearest bus stop but directly across from some major temples which were even able to be viewed from my window. The temple itself was so peaceful and all the staff were so lovely

I have no words to thank the staff of Koyasan Saizenin. Aside from the perfect location which was just next to the biggest wonders of this beautiful area (literally across the street), the people of this top notch temple restored my faith in mankind. I lef
