    Shugyo Experience at Koyasan”

Koyasan for the first time, and the experience of ascetic practice at Keikoin, a lodging house, was very moving. The meditation experience in the Ajikan Dojo at Ekoin, the night tour of Okuno-in after dinner, and the goma prayer (Bishamondo) held after the early morning service (Hondo), with its blazing flames and the sound of drums, were all very powerful. The extraordinary training experience was a precious experience that one can only have at a temple, and the solemn atmosphere of the temple, with the voices of the priests and monks reciting sutras echoing in the quiet flow of time, was a sobering experience.

Unique experience - temple accommodation just steps away from the Oku-no-in cemetery. Room was simple yet clean and cosy. Staff great and very friendly. Unique experience with vegan cuisine! Do not miss morning rituals, worth the early wake-up call.

My husband and I enjoyed learning about the culture of Koyasan during our temple stay. Bathing areas are shared, which is part of the unique experience. Highly recommend for those wanting to delve deeper into Japanese culture.
