This is a shukubo, or a guesthouse kept by a temple. Please relax at this unique inn and enjoy the modernized vegetarian cuisine, which originally derived from the dietary restrictions of Buddhist monks. It also welcomes customers who wish to have lunch only.
- This facility is a temple lodging.
*Temple lodgings were originally accommodation facilities for Buddhist priests and practitioners, but they now also accept regular tourists.
A Buddhist temple is also located on site, so both staff and priests will offer hospitality to guests.
- Guests that reserve a plan that includes meals at this temple lodging can enjoy Buddhist vegetarian cuisine.
*Buddhist vegetarian cuisine follows Buddhist precepts and is prepared with vegetables, beans, and other plant derived ingredients.
- When staying at this temple lodging, guests can experience the following.
- Sutra Transcription: Transcribe Buddhist sutras.
- Religious Service: Observe a ritual where a Buddhist priest chants sutras, etc.
- Ajikan Meditation: Meditate while looking at the Sanskrit symbol for "A." (*Requires reservation in advance.)

Excellent place to stay. Good value, the room was clean and had a nice view of the garden and excellent food was provided for dinner and lunch. The monks were very friendly and although had limited English they had written instructions available to explain

Had an incredible stay at Daienin, it was the highlight of my trip. Food was amazing, incredible hospitality, really nice buddhist service in the morning. Great location and really affordable, I would definitely stay here again.

We had a great stay which we enjoyed a lot. It is perfectly situated in Koyasan, food was really good and we could also check in prior to the offical check in time, which was a nice favour. The room had garden view. You can store luggage in case this is no

We stayed for a night with 2 young children. I cannot compare to other temple stays because this was our first. On hindsight, I feel that Shukubos are not be recommended for young children because there are guests who expect a very quiet stay, which is und

The staying is a great experience. Probably the largest room I had in Japan! The vegan buddhist food was beyond amazing. There is a ceremony and a visit of the temple in the Morning. The temple is located just next to the bus stop.

We were very satisfied with our stay, but have a suggestion to Japanican: It would be advisable to inform potential bookers, that practically no English is understood by Daienin staff. This is not criticising Daienin staff, but important to know beforehand

If you take showers in the evening, this place is great. Otherwise, no showers in the morning. Also, the morning services were fantastic ... if you speak Japanese (so feel free to ignore this if you do). Otherwise, you’ll hear 15 minutes of Japanese explan

We spent a very nice stay at Daienin. The rooms are very large, nice and comfortable (beds are very comfortable too). I liked the food (veggan, with vegetable, tofu and rice), but it can be difficult for children because the taste is very different from ou

We had a great stay at Daien-in. Before arrival (at 10AM) we called to ask if we could store our luggage there - it was no problem at all, so we could discover Koyasan without our suitcases. Checking in at 4.30PM took a bit as there was another group chec

Amazing experience. I loved the traditional Japanese tatami style rooms. Everything was perfect and it was a great opportunity to be able to see the dedication of the Buddhist monks. The breakfast and dinner servings were generous and very tasty! Thank

Though the monks don't speak much English, they were very friendly and helpful with regards to the place and meals. It was elucidating to attend their early morning ritual, even to just sit and listen as they chant. The vegetarian meal had a variety

The monks are extremely friendly. Our room had a beautiful view over the small and meticulous temple garden. Dinner was absolutely delicious and filling, with well seasoned and varied food. Before dinner, someone explained the dishes and how to eat them.

I spent a half days worth in public commuting to get to Daienin and it was well worth the effort. My stay at Daienin was a pleasant one as it is located in a very quaint and charming town on Koya-San. A simple walk will lead you to many historic landmarks

This isn’t luxury, but great for a temple stay. Staff and priests/students are very kind. Expect modest accommodations and you’ll be fine. Though you shouldn’t expect people to speak English here, they do their best to understand and accommodate you. The g

The overall experience was great, room, food and service excellent. It would have been nicer if alongside the beautiful morning ceremony, the monks would have spent a bit more time explaining more thoroughly about the type of buddhism they follow.

First of all: don’t forget that you stay at a monastery, not a hotel. The Daien-in is well situated within Koyasan so that you can see everything without need to take the bus (except for arrival and departure). The Japanese style room was rather big and ve
