More about Daienin

More about Daienin

This is a shukubo, or a guesthouse kept by a temple. Please relax at this unique inn and enjoy the modernized vegetarian cuisine, which originally derived from the dietary restrictions of Buddhist monks. It also welcomes customers who wish to have lunch only.

- This facility is a temple lodging.
*Temple lodgings were originally accommodation facilities for Buddhist priests and practitioners, but they now also accept regular tourists.
A Buddhist temple is also located on site, so both staff and priests will offer hospitality to guests.

- Guests that reserve a plan that includes meals at this temple lodging can enjoy Buddhist vegetarian cuisine.
*Buddhist vegetarian cuisine follows Buddhist precepts and is prepared with vegetables, beans, and other plant derived ingredients.

- When staying at this temple lodging, guests can experience the following.
- Sutra Transcription: Transcribe Buddhist sutras.
- Religious Service: Observe a ritual where a Buddhist priest chants sutras, etc.
- Ajikan Meditation: Meditate while looking at the Sanskrit symbol for "A." (*Requires reservation in advance.)

Excellent place to stay. Good value, the room was clean and had a nice view of the garden and excellent food was provided for dinner and lunch. The monks were very friendly and although had limited English they had written instructions available to explain

We had a great stay which we enjoyed a lot. It is perfectly situated in Koyasan, food was really good and we could also check in prior to the offical check in time, which was a nice favour. The room had garden view. You can store luggage in case this is no

We stayed for a night with 2 young children. I cannot compare to other temple stays because this was our first. On hindsight, I feel that Shukubos are not be recommended for young children because there are guests who expect a very quiet stay, which is und

The staying is a great experience. Probably the largest room I had in Japan! The vegan buddhist food was beyond amazing. There is a ceremony and a visit of the temple in the Morning. The temple is located just next to the bus stop.
