The Shikoku Pilgrimage of 88 temples that spreads over the vast area of Shikoku Island is a living cultural heritage site that has been thriving for more than 1,000 years, making it a true rarity for the whole world.
This journey traces the steps of the Japanese Buddhist monk, Kukai (also known as Kobo Daishi), who is attributed to spreading Esoteric Buddhism throughout Japan, as well as inventing kana, the Japanese writing system still used to this very day. Immerse yourself in the wonders of this pilgrimage, upon which many have taken for various purposes including worship, praying for health, and even for self-discovery. Experience both the vast nature and deep humanity that the Shikoku Pilgrimage has to offer.
