The Shikoku Pilgrimage of 88 temples that spreads over the vast area of Shikoku Island is a living cultural heritage site that has been thriving for more than 1,000 years, making it a true rarity for the whole world.
This journey traces the steps of the Japanese Buddhist monk, Kukai (also known as Kobo Daishi), who is attributed to spreading Esoteric Buddhism throughout Japan, as well as inventing kana, the Japanese writing system still used to this very day. Immerse yourself in the wonders of this pilgrimage, upon which many have taken for various purposes including worship, praying for health, and even for self-discovery. Experience both the vast nature and deep humanity that the Shikoku Pilgrimage has to offer.

The 88 Temples of the Shikoku Pilgrimage
*The No. 24 pilgrimage location Hotsumisakiji Temple is about 90 min from the hotel
*The No. 27 pilgrimage location Konomineji Temple is accessible from Konomineji Parking Lot, about 50 min from the hotel
**Konomineji Temple is located at the top of a steep mountain trail known as Mattate, and is therefore known as the most difficult site in the pilgrimage.
From the parking lot go through the temple gate, and climb to the top of the stone steps. At the top, take a left and go until you reach the sutra library (in which the image of Sho Kanzeon Bosatsu is enshrined). From there go left to find the main temple.

    Nearby Sightseeing Spot
    *Mikurodo Caves
The young Kukai is said to have trained as a monk at these caves.
The sound of the waves that can be heard from inside the caves has been designated as one of the “100 Soundscapes of Japan” by the Ministry of the Environment.
It is a popular power spot for healing both the body and soul.

**Guests with food allergies will be served a hypoallergenic menu, so please make sure to inform the hotel at least 5 days before accommodation.

    Exceptional”

A fantastic Ryokan high on a hill overlooking the town and ocean. A large comfortable room with a balcony and great view. Excellent indoor and outdoor baths and a big shop. We were there in a typhoon and it was a great place to watch it. Our car window was
