This historic hotel was originally the private retreat owned by the Matsudaira clan and has been visited by some of Japan's most famous leaders and artists throughout history for its scenic natural hot springs baths using hot spring water constantly flowing directly from the source. This was a brilliant start to our stay in Japan. The kaiseki-style dinners were excellent and the hot spring is top-class, with three different hot baths including several outdoors. The room is spacious with ample space for luggage. Staff make you feel ver
