School excursions are now available, and perhaps because of this, the hotel in front of Abashiri Station was fully booked, so we decided to stay at this hotel, which is a little further away. It is not a hotel in name only, but a Japanese-style room with tatami mats and futon bedding. The entrance has a half-tatami mat room in front of the door, and there is no difference between the tatami mats and the floor. Toilet and bath were shared with students on a school excursion. I was nostalgic thinking that this is how ryokan used to be, but I wonder how it would be for people nowadays.

Best river view tatami room. Room size is ok, with everything you need. Dinner is traditional Japanese cuisine, with crab leg shabu shabu. Carpark is just outside, fuel station is in the opposite. close to the Ice Drift terminal. overall worth the money.

“The quality of the dinners has been declining rapidly.”
I am really disappointed that the quality of dinner has been declining since about 3 years ago. At that time, the prices were cheap and the dinner was the best these days with crab, sauteed kinki with mayonnaise and assorted tempura, but now the crab is gone, the sauteed kinki is gone, and the assorted tempura including prawn tempura was freshly fried after we arrived at our table, but now it is cold kakiage and the tempura assortment has been reduced to kakiage. The dinner hall was deserted, and of course, the guests were also deserted. It was a far cry from the old days, and I was disappointed because I had been a regular guest at the hotel. If you lower the quality, you also lower the number of guests. I would like to see the Hokkai Hotel return to the way it used to be.
