This is a do it yourself tour that provides hotel accommodation, round trip from a Tokyo to Nikko and local transportation in a reasonably priced package. The destination Nikko with its amazing Heritage sites, and stunning scenery requires a longer stay than the one night included in the package, and I would recommend increasing the schedule with an optional extra 1 or 2 nights, especially as the Tobu bus pass is good for 4 days. The staff at the Tobu information desks, both at Asakusa and in Nikko were most helpful in planning our visit, providing a wealth of maps, schedules and brochures. The Chuzenji Kanaya hotel is an old fashioned sprawling place with large comfy rooms all with views of the lake, which was fully visible as trees not yet in leaf. Dinner was gourmet French style, and for breakfast you have the option of English (very conventional) or Japanese - a gastronomic adventure. Staff are attentive though with limited English.
