  • Around Osaka

It would be a shame to come all the way to Osaka and only see the north and south regions of the area! Stretch your legs and get off the beaten path for a deeper Osaka experience!

Although Japan's instant ramen is now popular all over the world, you can create your own original Cup Noodles at the My Cup Noodles Factory in the popular Momofuku Ando Instant Ramen Museum in northern Osaka. Its popularity lies in the fact that you can select your favorite soup and toppings in a cup you design, and create as many as 5,460 flavor combinations. Make your own original Cup Noodles for a great memory!

A little-known attraction in southern Osaka that we recommend is the tramway connecting Osaka City to Sakai City called the Hankai Tramway – or as it is popularly known, the "Chinchin Train." It is roughly 14km from Tennoji Ekimae Station at the beginning of the line to Hamadera Station at the end. Since the tram travels slowly and also has to wait at traffic ights, you can enjoy a relaxing 50-minute retro trip. At all stations other than the starting station, passengers usually get on the tram through the back door and off using the front. The price is ¥210 for adults and ¥110 for children, regardless of how far you ride. When getting off the tram, put your fare into the fare box next to the driver's seat.

  • Northern Osaka

From an oasis of skyscrapers to Japan's longest food oasis

Nakanoshima Park is a beautiful place to take pleasant walks while experiencing the changing seasons, and the architectural beauty of the Osaka City Central Public Hall and the well-maintained rose garden is sure to sooth your travel fatigue. We recommend that you try the river cruise and enjoy the views of Osaka from the bottom of the city's skyscrapers.

Within short walking distance of Nakanoshima Park is Tenjinbashisuji Shopping Street, which stretches 2.6km north-south and boasts the longest shopping street in Japan. As most of the distance, which spans three subway zones, is a covered arcade, there is no need to worry about the rain or sun, which makes it very convenient for shopping.

With approximately 600 shops lining the street, it takes roughly 30-40 minutes to walk from one end to the other. As you walk along the street, it is a truly enjoyable experience to discover interesting shops or let yourself be seduced by mouth-watering “B-kyu gourmet” (B-grade cuisine) treats such as croquettes and takoyaki.

  • Central Osaka

An area to learn history and culture

Osaka Castle is a symbol of central Osaka, and the contrast between it and the modern skyscrapers nearby symbolizes the coexistence of both old and new in Japan. Although situated in the city center, the area around the castle tower is covered in lush greenery, making it a popular place for recreational activities such as jogging and walking.

Along with the nearby Osaka Historical Museum, the castle tower is a popular spot to learn about Osaka's history. There is an observatory on the top floor from which you can get a great view of Osaka's skyscrapers. At Osaka Castle Park, which spreads out from the base of the castle tower, you can enjoy the changing seasons with a stroll under plum, cherry and other trees.

  • Southern Osaka

An area where Osaka's cuisine can be fully enjoyed

With the Shinsaibashisuji and Ebisubashisuji shopping streets stretching north-south, southern Osaka, which is famous for its enormous flashy billboards, is the perfect place to enjoy Osaka. An attraction that is rising in popularity in this area is the Osaka-Kizu Wholesale Market, which is one of Osaka's oldest traditional markets. At the market's rest area, you can eat the fresh seafood you buy in the market right then and there. In addition, Dotonbori in the center of southern Osaka is a mecca for cheap and delicious B-kyu gourmet.

Foods such as: the freshly-made and irresistibly piping hot takoyaki, which is a favorite snack among the locals; okonomiyaki made by the largest okonomiyaki chain store in Japan; and "551 Horai" ice candy, an Osaka specialty, are getting popular for the limited flavors they come out with every year (in addition to the six classic flavors) during summer festivals. Made with shiny white udon noodles and slightly sweet deep-fried tofu accented with a topping of chopped green onions and smothered in a golden-colored dashi (soup) that will stop you dead in your tracks with its stunning katsuo (bonito) aromas, the flavor of Osaka's famous fast food Kitsune Udon is so exquisite, that there are people who prefer it to ramen.
