Basic accomodation, expensive for what you get. Difficult access with very infrequent buses. No shops in the area and few restaurants of only mediocre standard. Well situated to access Showashinzan as long as you like walking.

Easy to find (near the main road, close to the lake), easy to check in. We were the only one in the youth hotel so it was very quiet :).
Amazing view on the lake for the breakfast. Onsen inside :). No elevator to get to the rooms but that's the only minus.

Very close to Showa Shinzan (~2.3km) and Lake Toya is just opposite within walking distance (across the road). Provided hot spring bath as well, an economic stay compared to Onsen town and yet very close to attractions. To save the time waiting for the Donan bus and save money on taxi we actually spent 20mins walk up the road to Showashinzan and coming back the same way as most attractions are just around Showashinzan. Hotel Nakanoshima is just beside and they are linked together and managed by same hotel staff. A stay that is value for money, recommend to travel by taxi to and fro from Toya station as this saves more time. Little further down the road from the onsen town, but is closer to Showa Shinzan compared to onsen town. Early reservation is required for meals. Would recommend this hostel for a budget stay as the rate per night is very much cheaper than those in the Onsen town even during peak season.

If you have a car, the location is pretty good - right on the lake and very close to Mt Usu and the ropeway. The room was clean and fairly spacious. We didn't mind sharing bathroom facilities etc as it was very quiet the weekend that we stayed. The baths were pretty old and tired. The service was ok but the staff don't really speak any English so that was limiting. Ok for a short, cheap stay.

I have reserved a twin bed room for a night. We requested to change to a room with ensuite(toilet & bath)upon arrival. The host offered us a room with ensuite at 1000 yen more. The ensuite room was clean with good shower. There is a large shared hotspring bath on the ground level. Highly recommended if you want a decent place to stay 1 night at reasonable rate. There are good family-run restaurants within walking distance. If you drive, the main street is just 5 min away if you want to soak into the fun of the fireworks display.
