As my husband remarked, “I would come back to Japan just to stay at this Ryokan.” It was absolutely perfect in every respect, magnificent food beautifully presented, lovely rooms with comfortable seating, beds & tatami, excellent service by attentive and friendly staff (but not intrusive), and the private onsens were wonderful with rock pools and their own gardens open to the night sky. I would especially compliment the management for the skilled staff, all of whom had good command of English so we didn’t have to struggle to be understood as (sadly) our Japanese is not very fluent. We enjoyed the ryokan’s architecture, design and decoration throughout. Thoroughly relaxing and clearly very carefully planned but not glaring or over the top in any way. We had a wonderful time learning about local shochu from the manager at dinner!
