We stayed at Henjoko-in for two nights in late fall. The temperature was near freezing, but our room warm and comfortable. For a temple, our room was very luxurious - - - we had control over the heat, enough futons to layer for softness, and our own bathroom. The food and baths were great.
We didn't have extensive conversations with the monks, but found them very kind in all our interactions. If anything, I felt a bit guilty about not knowing the obligations on our side.
