My wife and I spent our honeymoon in Kyoto for 3 nights, one of which we felt would be best spent on the outskirts of town near some temples, the river, bamboo grove, and the monkey park. The location is ideal for one night stay to be near all the sites in Arashiyama. The hotel is incredibly beautiful -- we were starving and decided to treat ourselves to the gourmet dinner they can provide there. It is a bit pricey, but it was delicious. The room was spacious, but layout wise the bathroom is a bit odd. There is a notable lack of towel hooks.
The private onsen bath that we reserved was interesting -- it smelled like it was full of bromine, and I was unsure if it was a proper onsen or not. We were escorted to the bath with a nice private enclave -- but it was not very deep.
All the staff was attentive and friendly. They comped the taxi ride back to Kyoto station on our way out of town. I am glad we stayed for the night, but I do not think for my budget I would do it again.
