Kagari Kisshoteiかがり吉祥亭

Ni-1-1 Korogi-machi, Yamanaka Onsen, Kaga-shi, Ishikawa Prefecture

4.3/5 BEST REVIEW

by CY Singapore / 29 Nov 2018

The onsen is kind of a disappointment. The female outdoor onsen is small with limited view of nature. Hubby has more positive feedback of the male outdoor onsen but it is always crowded. We were there in mid Nov.

- About 1 hour by car from Kanazawa. Located in Yamanaka Onsen, which has been open for 1,300 years, this is a hot spring resort facing the scenic area of Kakusenkei Gorge.
- Guestrooms are primarily Japanese-style rooms that feature tatami flooring.
- There are guestrooms with open-air hot spring baths where guests can enjoy the view of the valley, Japanese/Western-style rooms equipped with Simmons beds, Japanese-style rooms facing the beautiful Kakusenkei Gorge, and more.
- Guestroom amenities include yukata, tabi socks, hot spring hopping drawstring bags, bath towels, face towels, tooth brushes, hair brushes, hair dryers, and more.
- The hot springs feature not only 24 hour large communal baths (with indoor baths and open-air baths), but also 2 varieties of private baths (has partial closures for cleaning).
- From the open-air baths, guests can enjoy the beauty of Kakusenkei Gorge throughout the seasons, including fresh verdure, autumn leaves, snowy scenes, and more.
- In the women’s bath, female guests can enjoy a spectacular view of Kakusenkei Gorge in the rare, 1 meter deep standing open-air bath and indoor bath. The bath is also equipped with body towels for bathing.
- There are 2 types of private baths: a cypress bath and a rock bath. Reservations are taken at the front desk on the day on a first come, first served basis (requires a fee).
- After a soak in the baths, guests can enjoy cold barley tea (14:00 - 18:00), as well as a beer in the evening (16:00 - 18:00) or cold tokoroten jelly strips in the morning (6:30 - 9:00) free of charge.
- Each service is provided at their set times.
- Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the ryokan.
- For meals, enjoy fresh seafood delivered 30 minutes by car from Hashidate Port and Kaga vegetables in 2 restaurants overflowing with personality.
- The Kaga Syunsai restaurant Irodori has an open kitchen and is known for its regional kaiseki cuisine and all-you-can-eat freshly fried tempura.
- At Kagatobi, the restaurant with a spectacular view of Kakusenkei Gorge, guests can enjoy delights from the mountains and seas in hot pot kaiseki cuisine and more, as well as barbeque and seafood rice bowls in the summer.
- Along Yuge Kaido Street, which is located right in front of the ryokan, in addition to hot spring egg-making experiences, there are galleries for Kutani ceramic ware and Yamanaka lacquer ware, shops that sell sweet dumplings or croquettes, cafes, and more lined side by side. And along the ravine running parallel to the street, there is also a 1.3 kilometer promenade, where guests can enjoy strolls of Kakusenkei Gorge.
- For those with a car, this is a convenient location for visiting Eihei-ji Temple (40 minutes away), Kanazawa and its dinosaur museum (1 hour away), and the World Heritage Sites of Gokayama and Shirakawago (2 hours away).
- There is also a free shuttle from Kagaonsen Station (closest station). From Kanazawa it is just 25 minutes via a limited express train, making travel quite convenient. (For details, please refer to Access Info)
