The staff welcomes you warmly and make you feel at home. I had a large and comfortable room with a view on the mountains. I really felt at home as it wasn't peak season and I didn't meet anyone when walking around. The dinner and breakfast served in your own dining room were superb and I could have a friendly chat with the maid who served the meals and generally was the one helping me around. Great baths with a view on the mountain and you can open the windows for some fresh air. I love the philosophy of the Kayotei to use local products from local farmers and artisans. They can organize visits to see how these products are made (sake, washi...). You can access by foot the path along the river to see Basho's hut and the 2 famous bridges.
