Kokuya (Shibu)古久屋

2200 Hirao, Yamanouchi-machi, Shimotakai-gun, Nagano Prefecture

by Justin Australia / 21 Sep 2011

This is a wonderful ryokan. The service, food and hospitality of the staff was excellent. The spas in the onsen were very good and location in the Shibu village give direct access to public onsens set along the street. The location also provides closer access to the Monkey park than the Yudanaka township. This has been our best onsen and traditional ryokan experience.

This historied ryokan is built in the sukiya style and features a woody scent, obtained over its 400 years in business. The hot spring water source is located right inside the inn itself and feeds the four open-air baths and five indoor baths with a constant supply of fresh spring water that is never recirculated.
