This roykan is not the top of the pile in terms of luxury just to be clear, but it's a really authentic experience of Japan. The staff are ready when you arrive, and help with anything. They are really friendly, and so helpful. English is also good, better than other places we have been in Japan for sure. The room was right next to a river, which you can see from the private onsen in the room, it's right next to the hotel. Really nice and relaxing. It's a spartan room, like any ryokan, but relaxing.
Don't bother taking a bus if you need to go here. Take a taxi from Yuragawa station, it's almost exactly 2300 yen. It's up some very steep hills, so don't even think about walking up there with luggage.
What this ryokan does have is almost ultimate privacy, no one can look into your room from any direction, and the staff make sure you are not disturbed. The dinner was amazing. Dinner is made in the room. But presentation and quality was excellent.
Great experience for sure.
