Nice place for a brief getaway. Pretty surroundings, Japanese apartments accessed from outside walkways; small kitchen. Big tatami room to sleep in (up to six), a regular sitting room. Nice bedding and views, and the usual basic amenities (towels, tea set). Hot springs bath is attractive, small – five taps for the gents, a tub that would seat maybe five, cozily. No outdoor bath. No food or restaurants nearby; go back down the slope to Goura. Bring snacks.
Evening and morning staff were pleasant.
Check-in was negative. I arrived just before the 3 pm "check in or lose your booking" deadline, rang the bell. The staff emerged with a sour expression, saying only "Hai?". I told her my name in Japanese. She just said "Hai?" again and, annoyed, asked for the spelling of my name. It was cold and unwelcoming. People say "Irassahimase" (Welcome) in every shop in Japan; she couldn't be bothered. She was grumpy, or had her Instagram time interrupted, or just didn't want to deal with me.
