This was a brilliant start to our stay in Japan. The kaiseki-style dinners were excellent and the hot spring is top-class, with three different hot baths including several outdoors. The room is spacious with ample space for luggage. Staff make you feel very welcome despite many not speaking any English. The location is a bit remote from central Aizu-Wakamatsu but is accessible by bus and several sightseeing spots are within walking distance. It already has a forest/mountain feeling which is very relaxing.
