My wife and I have stayed in a number of ryokan in our trips to Japan, and I'd rate Takinoya at the very top, #1. It was expensive comparatively, but we had a largeJapanese/Western room that had a separate dining area, reading area, tatami room, bedroom with two large beds, and a private two-person onsen bath. Although we looked at the two pubic onsen baths, and they were lovely, my wife and I somehow never used them. Staff were wonderful and super thoughtful, anticipating everything we'd need to have an enjoyable experience. The dinner service was excellent, and the food presentation was excellent with only the highest quality local Hokkaido ingredients. Truly a memorable dinner, and breakfast was just as enjoyable. If and when we return to Hokkaido, we'll return here again. Great place, Great experience!
