Kawayu Midoriya is a wonderful ryokan in the Kawayu Onsen area and it is a good base for you to travel to different attractions in the region. The staff were wonderful from check-in to check-out. Their outdoor onsen pools are spectacular as well (onsen yukata provided since it's a mixed gender one) The food is very good as well with variety of stuff you can pick from...

This inn is located in a river valley in a naturally blessed area considered holy ground since ages past as the home of the gods. It features spacious, classical Japanese-style guest rooms, and the open-air bath located on the river bed is Kawayu Onsen's only truly outdoor bath. In the summer, guests can enjoy swimming and river-related activities and will find their minds and bodies refreshed by the soft murmuring of the river through the ravine. For those wishing to visit the Kumano Kodo pilgrimage route, the inn offers free shuttle service to Hasshinmonoji, Fushiogamioji, and Hongucho.

From Kii-Tanabe Station (JR Kisei Line): Take the bus bound for Hosshinmon-oji Shrine from the Ryujin Jidosha Tanabe Bus Stop and get off at Shimoyunomine Station (about 90 minutes). It takes about 2 minutes on foot from there.
By car: Exit the Hanwa Expressway at Kamitonda IC and continue along Route 311 for about 60 minutes (50 km). Head towards Kumano Hongu Taisha.

From Kii-Tanabe Station (JR Kisei Line): about 40 min on foot or 10 min by taxi at around JPY 1,600 (as of April 2015). Last train is at around 23:25. If schedule permits, a pick-up service is also available at the station.
By car: Exit the Hanwa Expressway at Tanabe IC and continue along the Tanabe Ryujin prefectural route. The hotel is 200m from Akizuno Garten on the left.
