Appi Kogen Ski Resort is the largest in the Tohoku region. It consists of four areas. Thanks to its efficient distribution of lifts, a variety of slopes are easily accessible.
Alts Bandai has a total of 30 kilometers of runs across three ridges. It's the site for the "Nippon Open" snowboard competition, part of a series of three major events, the others being held in the United States and Europe.

This ski resort is located in the middle of Mt. Aizubandai, which one old folk song calls "the treasure mountain." In 2009, it'll be the stage for an international freestyle skiing competition.
This ski resort has many runs and visitors may require more than a day to enjoy all the slopes. There is even a helicopter service that takes skiers to the top of the mountain. Extended stays allow skiers to sample all of the runs.
This is one of the best ski resorts in Japan, where the Nagano Olympic Games were staged in 1998. With a 1,000-meter vertical drop, you can ski down its longest run of 8 kilometers.

This ski resort is famous for being the stage of the Japanese college student games. Spectacular views can be had from the top of Mt. Iwatake overlooking the Hakuba area. There is a gentle slope at the top of the mountain, so beginners can enjoy some visual delights along with high-quality snow at the summit.

This is the largest ski resort in the Shiga Kogen area. During the Nagano Olympic Games in 1998, some runs were used for alpine and other events. There are around a dozen small and large ski resorts in the Shiga Kogen area. Ten-day passes are available so that visitors can enjoy all the ski resorts here.

Shizukuishi Ski Resort is one of the top ski areas in the world. International competitions, such as the World Cup, are staged here.
