Maruyama Park

One of the most famous places to see nocturnal views of cherry blossoms in Kyoto.

As one of the most popular park in kyoto, Maruyama Park is guite renowned for its huge neeping tree, well known as "nocturnal view of Gion cherry blossoms". They are lit up in early April, and will be full of people coming to see the cherry blossoms as the notable site of nocturnal view of cherry blossoms. The weeping cherry trees blossom come into bloom around late March to early April, followed by the Someiyoshino, and then Yamazakura (mountain cherry blossoms). The cherry blossoms lighting-up event is still undecided this year. (Last year, it was held from March 10, - April 15, 2007).

Kiyomizudera Temple

On a world renowned Kyoto scene, delights within a cloud of gorgeous cherry trees

Kiyomizudera Temple is crowded with worshippers all seasons around. You can observe the great outlook of cherry blossoms in spring, and red leaves in autumn from Kinunkei (Kinun canyon) which is in the bottom cliff of the the main temple. At night, you can enjoy another aspect of the scene compared with the daytime.

A wonderful cherry blossom viewing walk within a very Kyoto-like scenery

The cherry blossoms of Arashiyama are said to be bedded out from Yoshino when Emperor Gosaga built Kameyamadono (Kameyama Detached Palace). Today, there are about 1,500 kinds of cherry trees among which the someiyoshino-kind. With the view of Mt. Hiei and Mt. Atago, a road, that leads from Matsuo Shrine passing through the right bank of Katsura River to Togetsu Bridge, offers a perfect scene for a cherry blossom-viewing picnic. The district of Arashiyama is nationally-known for its magnificent cherry trees, and the whole mountain is colored with the contrast of greens and cherry blossoms. The weeping cherry trees of Tenryuji Temple are also very beautiful.

Miyajima

A myriad of fairy like colors on one among the greatest views of Japan

Miyajima is a nearly rectangular island on Hiroshima Bay, about 18km southeast to the city of Hiroshima. Belonging as one of the honored landscapes within the Nihon Sankei (the Three Views of Japan) with Matsushima of Miyagi Prefecture and Amanohashidate of Kyoto Prefecture, Miyajima also offers splendid scenes of cherry blossom to be enjoyed, especially the someiyoshino-kind and the weeping cherry trees at near Goju no To (Five Story Pagoda), Omoto Park, and Mitarai River Shore. One of the major cherry blossom viewing points, Taho To Tower (an important cultural asset ) stands on the west hill of Itsukushima Shrine. When the cherry blossoms are in full bloom, you can observe the Torii Gate through the blooming someiyoshino kind flower.

Nishi Park

One among the "100 best cherry blossom sights in Japan".

Opened in 1981, Nishi Park has been a scenic area, where you are able to enjoy splendid views and especially Hakata Bay. Many people visit this famous and splendid cherry blossom viewing point where 1,300 cherry trees such as the someiyoshino-kind and weeping cherry trees are planted. Also lies in the park Terumo Shrine where the general of Kyushu region, Yoshitaka Kuroda, and his son Nagamasa are enshrined, and also a monument inscribed with a poem of Soho Tokumi who is famous as a historian and a critic.
