Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden

This former imperial garden provides a quiet oasis within Tokyo's busiest area

Although it once was used as a private space for the imperial family, the Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden is now open to the public. This vast national park covers an area of about 583,000 sq m (6.3 million sq ft). The park opens daily from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. during cherry blossom season.

Osaka Castle

One of Japan's most magnificent castles bordered by pink sakura trees

The large park surrounding Osaka Castle was built by Toyotomi Hideyoshi in 1583.

The park's 4,300 cherry blossom trees are illuminated at night for one week during the beginning of April, creating elegant surroundings for Osaka Castle.

Mt. Yoshino

An astounding number of gorgeous cherry blossoms

Legend states that a magician founded this mountain's temple almost 1,500 years ago, carving the Buddha's shape onto the mountain's cherry trees. Since then, Mt. Yoshino has been filled with cherry trees donated by his followers. In spring, almost 30,000 cherry blossoms bloom one after another for about 3 weeks, coloring the entire 8 km (5 mi) ridge cherry pink.
