"Clean and Cool Communication @ AKIBA":

The Story!

On Friday, Feburuay 13th JAPANiCAN held a very special event in Akihabara in collaboration with Chiyoda City, the Akihabara Tourism Promotion Association and the Tourism Industry Association of Japan. Thank you to everyone that joined - "Clean and Cool Communication" was a major success!

Despite overcast skies the weather luckily stayed dry, and over 80 people gathered in Akihabara for the event. Local residents, overseas students, visitors, and expatriates all worked together both to clean Akihabara and to foster a deeper international connection.

Time to Clean!

Volunteers from France, Pakistan, Vietnam, China, Singapore, and Italy joined with local volunteers from Chiyoda City, staff from the Akihabara Tourism Promotion Association, the Tourism Industry Association of Japan, and JAPANiCAN Inc. The diverse group of people set out at 3:00 p.m.

Splitting into two different groups, all participants proceeded to pick up small pieces of trash lying along the sidewalks of Chue Avenue. At the end of the operation, everyone's hard work and cooperation produced an amazing result, as more than 50 kilograms of garbage was collected!

Participant Impressions

One participant from Pakistan told us he found out about the event through the internet. Pleased to have joined the event, he said he had a wonderful time. It was the first time for him to take part in such a community clean-up campaign, as according to him such events are not widespread in his home country.

We hope everyone will join us again in the future. Chiyoda City, after seeing the success of this event, is undergoing a campaign asking everyone to refrain from throwing away cigarette butts on the street, in order to preserve a clean Akihabara and make sure everyone's hard work at the "Clean and Cool Communication" campaign doesn't go to waste! Due to the success of this event, we are thinking of more events for the future! We're looking forward to seeing you again!
