Hiiragiya Ryokan exceeded our expectations. The welcome was amazing. The woman who was our personal concierge could not have made us feel more welcome or at ease. The food was amazing and dinner was one of the best meals of our lives. Most incredible of all was the 91 year old owner's warm wishes for our marriage (we were on our honeymoon) and she personally saw us to the door when we checked out. We hope to be able to return soon!!!

A beautiful and very welcoming guesthouse. Our hosts were absolutely lovely- great service and spectacular food. The best thing was the small touches- like when we left for the day sightseeing they handed us a bag with frozen water and hand towels - very thoughtful. And very appreciated.

The Japanese room my family stayed in was kept very clean and neat. Despite its age, it has a certain charm and is especially serene and bright in the morning when the sunlight shines through the garden side window. The staff was super inviting as was the owner being very hospitable. Our daughter ran a small fever on the last night we stayed there and the staff quickly gave us options on using an ice pillow and children's fever patch. The delicious Kyoto kaiseki was truly a feast for the eyes. This ryokan is definitely worth making a trip for to get the full Kyoto experience.
