Beautiful ryokan built around 1930, with wonderful mountain setting and garden. We had Japanese-style Room with Open-air Hot spring Bath & Indoor Bath - it was very spacious and wonderfully relaxing but the price is very high (next time, I think we could select a cheaper option). The shared baths options were good, clean and had great views, so on reflection I don't think we needed a private bath in the room (especially as it is not big enough for 2 people). It was nice bathing under the stars though, at any time you like! The food is delicious and the service was truly first class, Japanese style excellence and care. But again I'm not sure the dinner and breakfast justify the additional cost. We stayed in 2 other ryokans in Japan (a small one in Kyoto and nearly as big one to the west of Tokyo) which were not as good but less than a third of the cost. Highly recommend visiting but consider whether you really need the extras!
